Bad Boys, Bad Boys ....

Wow such and exiting Friday night. It started off with a simple end of the term pottery pick-up. My roommate and I went downtown to pick-up our pottery pieces that got fired from our last pottery class of the summer. And as we usually do a few people from the class got together afterwards for food and drinks at Acapulcos's downtown.

This is when things started to get interesting. As we are waiting for our table I noticed my roommate and his friend whispering and starting over to the other side of the restaurant. I had to ask what was so exciting over there. I found out that there was a guy that look a lot like the guy who my roommate is suing for skipping out of a landscaping job with his money. So of my roommates friends have close ties with people in the police department, and they found out that he has some traffic warrants and other things out on him. Anyways so for the first half of our meal everyone was all jumpy and trying to figure out what to do. So finally our friend called their friends at the dispatcher office and they sent over 3 cops to go ID the man. We were really surprised the showed up so fast, which is awesome.

The the 3 cops approached the man, eating outside, with a lady friend and he handed them some sort of ID. All of us had rushed out the restaurant to see what was going to happen, we were not sure it was even the right guy. After the cops talking to the man for about 10mins he walked out of the court yard with them and got cuffed! WOW it was him, and my roommate was ecstatic, as the guy was being walked passed his, he said, "Hey" and the man said hi back acknowledging that he know my roommate then the cops pushed them away from each other.

Next my roommate had to run home to get the court papers to serve the man since he was being taken to the police station.

Amazing night it was... Almost makes me want to carry around a video camera :)

Free Army Makeover

Here is an interesting article I ran across today.  Is there something you don't like about your body? Want it fixed for free? Then join the army so their doctors can get in some good practice time. "Practice", wow after for so many years seeing how wrong plastic surgery can go, would you really want some new guy testing his skills out on you?  I guess if you have done all your basic training and are now at a desk job getting fat like me it would be a quick solution.

Official Pier Masters Championships

It was a beautiful evening down at the Goleta pier. The sun was shining, the air temperature in the mid 70's, and the surf was calm, all the pickings for a great fishing competition.  Today's anglers are the new up and coming locals at Goleta pier Waldman, and Sheldo.  This evening was the culmination of two previous warm up fishing outing. The competitors were reminded to keep this a fair, clean fish, and not hitting below the bait.

To even out the playing fields each contestant was given, thanks to our sponser KMart, 1 bait jig, snap hook ( for fast, and easy tackle switching ), two 3/4 lbs weight, no knifes, and the kicker you may bring no bait.

So the scene is set and the anglers are all geared up and as the bell rings, you can hear the zing of each cast out over the pier as the competition starts.  Waldman falls to a quick deficit as he manages to hook "the big one" that's right the leg of the pier.  Then the lead goes to Sheldo as he finds someone left over squid bait sitting on the railing, but wait there is not knife to cut it up. Things are defiantly heating up now.  In a bold move Sheldo grabs the pliers and starts ripping off some bait for his string of 5 hooks. Oh and what's this Waldman gets a look of some left-overs and and cons Sheldo into putting a small piece on his center hook.  Both lines hit the water and the wait is on. This is Pier Fishing at its best people.  The crows of kids calling out, "Can I have all the fish you catch?", the anticipation is high. Waldman gets a tug on the line, he quickly draws up the hooks, and wait what's this, YES folks it the first catch EVER in this tournament. It's a huge maybe 4" yellow perch. Sheldo helps dig the hook out of an eye socket, and away the fish goes back out to sea.

Feeling the pressure of being down 1 fish to none, and the sun setting in a mere 35 minutes, Sheldo throws back out his line, and not maybe 5 minutes have past and Bam! Hook line and sinker, the game is tied with Sheldo catching his first fish of the night, another 4" perch.

The competition is tight and the seemingly magical squid bait has run out.  With little or no bait the anglers throw into the water one more time.  We can see some strategy starting to play out, as Sheldo seems to be fishing in the top foot of water, and Waldman gambling is going deep, down to the bottom. And Yes folks it pays off with the winning catch of a nice 4" Rock Fish.  Thanks for joining us at the Pier Masters, until next time, keep those lines tight, and hooks baited.

July 4th

This July 4th I had a pretty busy weekend, driving to San Diego, finding parking in Pacific Beach (PB) and then watching the fireworks in Ocean Beach (OB). In the afternoon in PB I met up with some old college friends and hung out at the beach most of the day.

Then later that night for the fireworks we all met up with sheldo down in OB for some fireworks. It was amazing timing on Alex's part, as he parked about 6 blocks away, but as we were driving into OB I gave his cell a call and he just happen to be walking by an open parking spot. So he stood there and saved it for us! Awesome! The next crazy thing was as we were walking down to the beach to watch the fireworks, I kept seeing people in their wetsuits running down to the beach with their surf boards. Since it was dark and almost 9pm I wasn't quite sure what was going on. Later as the first firework launched from the end of the pier and lit up the sky blue, I could make out that there were about 150 surfers all lined up at the end of the pier getting a close up view of the show. That's a freaking awesome idea, maybe next year I will bring my board too!
