Summer solstice 2005

Summer solstice 2005
So last week was summer solstice parade. I think its by far the best even for this town. The parade each year has a wacky theme, this it was year "Wild Things". And yes we heard that song a lot. Our day was jammed packed. The morning started with my neighbor whipping up breakfast burritos, and pile-o-piles of bacon. Along with tons bloody mary's and mimosa's. A little after noon we headed enjoy the parade (more pics here). Only blocks from my house. I was very excited to be able to walk to the parade this year. After that we headed to the park for more food and beer. We took a break for a few hours and then headed to the west side for a party named Fred Fest. Some people/guy has like 5 bands, kegs, and tri-tip at his place as an open solstice party. Awesome! After listening to a few songs, we headed out across the street to find another party. They had a foosball table there, I believe Alli and I dominated Shane and Missy! Big Alex met up with us and we got some Super Cucas food, and then headed back to the party. Sadly we did not last long on full stomachs and being out and about all day.

Top 100 Movie Quotes

I love movies, and I love butchering good quotes. Check it out AFI has released their AFI's 100 YEARS...100 MOVIE QUOTES.

Sadly I think the were still missing quite a few from movies like:

Half Baked, "Right near the beach, Boy!"

The Fifth Element, "Yes, Yes we know its a multi-pass!"

Update this!

I ran my second night moves 5k tonight, and I ran it faster! Yeah! I think my time was around 29:30 29:24 (official time). This time there was a guy out there telling us our first mile time, and mine was around 9:25 so that was exciting.

Next up I have spending lots of money, amex must be loving me right now. I have purchased all the speakers I need for my home theater setup. But I have yet to listen to them as I don't have a receiver :( But I am looking to get one pretty fast.

Oh and even more exciting today C, Andrew and I purchased our plane ticket to Costa Rica! We are leaving September 19th, and I am heading back Oct 11. Andrew is staying longer, and C is heading back a week before me. I am going to use up all my 16 days of vacation, but what a way to spend them! The next scary step is to get the vaccinations for there. See the list. Yikes I think those will hurt :(

My First 5K

Today I ran my first 5k (3.2 mi) run. I had wavered all day about whether not I was going to attempt the run. I had ran last night at SBCC with Alex, as was kind of tired and on top of that it was overcast! Well my friend Chris said he was still going to go so I figured I would suck it up and try it out, and I am glad I did. It was really fun.

So the race is called Night Moves, and runs (HA!) every Wednesday night during the summer. It is a pretty casual race, really its more like team training, but they hand out bibs and have an official time.

Chris and I got there around 5:30 which gave us plenty of time to warm-up and stretch before the 6:15 start. I was kind of nervous and I have never ran in any type of race before. The start is pretty nuts, its like telling 300 people ok, go! I didn't want to run the first leg really hard and then die later, but man it felt like waves of people just consistently passing me. But I think I was keeping a decent pace and the first half of the race is all up hill, and I was surprised when I saw the first mile mark, I was hoping it was more like the halfway mark. But soon after that I started to see the front runners heading back towards me, so my hopes where up that I was not to far from the turnaround, but it was still up another hill. Heading up the last hill I saw Chris heading back. It was so nice to hit that halfway point as the rest was downhill. I pretty much ended up keeping pace with two people in front of me, and was able to ran a tad faster to the finish....

My final time was about 30:53! :) I am pretty stocked on my time as its better then I had thought I would do. I will have to check edhat tomorrow for my official time. I think I might keep doing these up to my race, as even the after party is pretty fun. There is a band, food, drinks, and beer all included in your entry fee. $25 the first time, $15 after and I got a t-shirt :)
