Surf'N

Yo! We are now in Tamerindo, and there is surf here.  I think it said it was 3-5 feet, its pretty crazy beach break. I rented a 7'4" board and did ok on it I never really mode it out to the main breakers but the outside waves reform to the inside.  But i was able to get up on the board :)  Tomorrow we are going on a Kayak trip, the only sucky part about the beach here is that they had some big rain storms and such so the snorkeling is all hosed, but the sun, surf, and sand will have to do. We are here till Thursday and then we head out for Manual Antonio park to hopefully see some more wild life, and monkeys!

We are alive

Hi from Costa Rica,

So its almost been a week and we are still alive. We got to San Jose on Tuesday and decided it was just a city and it would be best to get out to the country (you were right Andy!). So we took a shuttle to the Arenal Volcano. We were quite lucky to pick a place called the Arenal Observatory to stay at, as it is pretty much at the base of the volcano, and we at night we could sit and eat dinner watching the red hot lava rocks run down the side of the hill. You could hear the rumbling on the the rocks, it was great. Apparently only 10% of the time you get to see lava and the very top, so we got it right.  The next day we went white water rafting, the water was nice and it was fun, but the class 3 rapids weren't as crazy as the ones we did in California. I guess we should have done the class 4s, oh well. After that we soaked in the hot springs at a place called Balti. We also went on some hikes around the volcano area in the rain forest, and we saw some birds, and colleen found 1 holler monkey but I missed it. We were there for 3 nights, and yesterday we got here to Monteverde, the cloud rain forest. The roads aren't the best so they are quite bumpy dirt road but its such a green lush view.

At our B and B we get white faced monkeys that come to the back porch and they feed them Bananas, its really cool. We just got back from the canopy zip line tour, it was really fun, there were about 15 zip lines, and a huge Tarzan swing where you climb up and jump off and you swing out over the canyon and back in.

So I think tomorrow we are going to head out to one of the beach areas on the Pacific side, hopefully the weather is decent to get some snorkeling and surfing  in, so far about each day around 2 or 3 it starts raining.

Hope all is good with you, till we find the next Internet cafe

Walk don't Run

Maybe there is some truth to the old saying "Walk don't Run".

Well since my 5k triathlon relay in July, I really haven't been running that much. I think on average its about once a week. Today at lunch I ran with Chris on his favorite 3 mile run around sands. I finished in a decent time around 33 mins, and that was with some walking.

So anyways I find it interesting that when I think of a good way to exercise I think I should go running, but after reading today's Ask Yahoo! entitled Do I burn the same amount of calories walking as I do running? It looks like I might have had it all wrong, walking burns more fat, but I am sure there are benefits to running that they did not talk about like building mussel muscle and cardio vascular strength.

Yippee new toys.

I am quite excited today as I got my new digital camera in the mail.  I got the Canon SD400. I am quite impressed with the size of the this camera. Its so small, and even more so since I am upgrading from my first digital camera the Nikon Coolpix 800. The Nikon seems like a beast but it has always treated me well and taken good pictures, maybe that is the reason this is my first upgrade in almost 6 years. Crazy!

So the real pressing reason I decided to throw down was I saw a pretty nice Dell deal on this unit, but of course the next day Costco drops their price ( but mine was still cheaper, just no implicit Costco warranty if you know what I mean), and my vacation to Costa Rica is coming up soon.  Last time I was in Europe C and I each had our own cameras and took about 600 pictures over 2 weeks. That was lots of fun, and now we both have a pocket sized cameras to go crazy with.

On a side note doesn't it suck that when you order something exciting online you have to wait for it to come in the mail. Its so painful, but then again I think it does add some extra excitement when if finally comes. Like today I got an email that DHL dropped off my package at 10am, so for my lunch hour I drove home to get it, and brought it back to work to charge up the battery and test it out.

Also 6 months sure has gone by fast, and yep still no cavities! :) I had a cleaning today, and got a few sample sized floss, toothbrush, mouthwash, and toothpaste to take one my trip, score!
